Welcome to Live Work Play 2011, the Denver Regional Council of Governments' (DRCOG) brand-new and exciting awards program celebrating great places and livable communities in the Denver region.
Live Work Play 2011 shines the spotlight on 10 great places, events and projects in livable communities throughout the Denver metro area, and culminated with the April 13 announcement of a People's Choice award winner. Mixed-use and mixed-income urban centers work in concert to make our region not only livable but memorable, as outlined in Metro Vision, the Denver metro area's shared vision of its future. Vibrant urban centers are clean, safe, compact, 24/7 environments. They are sustainable when people and businesses comingle, creating a sense of place that attracts people of all incomes and ages to stay while they live, work and play.
Metro Vision encourages communities to work together. Development districts and local governments use public-private partnerships to build places where businesses can grow jobs and people can enjoy healthy lifestyles in all stages of life. Arts and cultural events, along with access to locally grown food, enrich the value of these districts and help create places to be honored, celebrated and replicated.

A Steering Committee of independent experts in the livable communities arena acted as the awards program review panel, verifying eligibility based on submission criteria, evaluating the nominations and selecting 10 finalists. The 10 finalists are profiled on LiveWorkPlay2011.com, and voting ended at noon April 13. The People's Choice winner was announced live at the inaugural Live Work Play 2011 cocktail reception at Mile High Station. The event featured an epicurean buffet tour of restaurants from around the region.
